About This Project

Simonds College in West Melbourne provided an interesting challenge to Cotter Reid Architects Director, Wayne Reid in creating flexible learning environments in a heritage listed 1920s building in 2014. Flexible and modern learning spaces were established with five Year 7 learning spaces developed along with a refurbished entrance foyer and multipurpose room. Classroom walls have been finished with either whiteboard paint or hexagonal pin boards allowing instruction and presentations to happen anywhere around the room. Acoustic issues and sound problems from the boys at this Roman Catholic School were resolved using suspended custom made ceiling panels that continued the hexagonal shape of the pin boards and carpet pattern. A great result, well received by students and staff alike.
