About This Project

A masterplan for the redevelopment of the Maternal Day Assessment Unit (MDAU) at University Geelong Hospital was undertaken by Cotter Reid Architects to provide the Geelong community with additional facilities to support both expecting mothers and staff. Barwon Health, one of Geelong’s largest employers and with a growing population base required increased facilities, enhanced waiting areas and reception, additional scanning and assessment areas & improved Consult Rooms. Approximately 550 to 600 babies are born in Geelong each year which is increasing according to The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare found that there has been an increase in the rate of births in Australia of over 20% since 2003. Barwon Health, University Geelong Hospital with specialised health architecture planning of Cotter Reid Architects, Geelong and surrounding areas are well placed in the preparation of further future growth.
