St Leonards College
East Brighton, Victoria
The project includes extending to the north through the provision of an new wing. The site planning for this facility responds to the need to maintain existing parking numbers, whilst avoiding a major drainage easement bisecting the site.
Extending the existing building affords the College the opportunity to provide dedicated spaces for Junior Science and Art, relieving timetabling pressures to the rest of the campus. These rooms will be ergonomically designed to suit the ages of the intended users.
The existing building is quite insular in nature – the design allows the complex to re-connect with the rest of the campus by “opening up” the new wing to the adjoining sports fields and Middle School Building, whilst providing abundant natural light. Chosen materials are in keeping with the existing building, with a further re-clad of the existing building to reduce ongoing maintenance issues.
