About This Project

Mazenod College sought to fulfil the pressing need for a central sporting complex that housed a multitude of activities. Given Mazenod College’s enviable record in volleyball, table tennis and chess, the brief for Tony Cotter, Director Cotter Reid Architects was to create a building to accommodate a diversity of activities and function as the primary assembly space for the entire student body. Provision was required for an International standard volleyball court; retractable and moveable / portable seating for assembly of over 1500 students ;  Function and Chess room; one basketball court; two extra volleyball courts; four badminton courts; eight Table Tennis tables plus Change Rooms.  The Complex was designed to bookend a previous project, the music, drama and IT building referred to as the Founders Complex also completed by Tony Cotter, Director Cotter Reid Architects. As such the building incorporates similarly dynamic forms, which is the new architectural language of Mazenod College, reflecting a progressive academic and social philosophy. The materials employed include expansive areas of copper cladding, metallic siding and glass. * Undertaken as Latitude Architects
