Waurn Ponds Campus, Geelong, Victoria
Deakin University’s Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds commenced operations in the 1970’s. The central area is the hub of student activity on campus incorporationg the KD Stewert Centre, was showing significant signs of wear and tear and had clearly outgrown its original functionality. Deakin University was keen to upgrade this campus and to ensure that scarce capital funding is allocated appropriately. Cotter Reid Architects was asked to prepare a makeover masterplan in 2008. New opportunities were created to enhance the activities within the centre of the campus. These included improving connections through and between buildings and enhancing internal and external connections. Opportunities to integrate different modes of learning throughout the area will assist with the reinvigoration of this campus giving student and staff the experience of a 21st Century campus.
