Waurn Ponds Campus, Geelong, Victoria
Cotter Reid Architects assisted Deakin University in upgrade facilities at the Waurn Ponds Campus in Geelong, Victoria. The existing engineering building at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus, built in the 1970’s, was looking dated and very much in need of a refurbishment. Cotter Reid Architects were commissioned to renovate and open up a number of spaces, including two existing teaching laboratories, a workshop and office area as well as the main building entry corridor. The consolidation of rooms were then completely refitted, including new ceilings and floor finishes, and a sense of identity was created by assigning different colour schemes to the different laboratories. An important aspect of the brief was the refurbishment of the existing entry corridor where new fixtures and fittings, including a timber batten screen and feature lighting, were used to provide a more welcoming and stimulating entry to the laboratory precinct.
