Adaptability is key in this design and this is especially relevant in education architecture as demonstrated by Tony Cotter, Director Cotter Reid Architects in this project. The lecture theatre, canteen and classroom project aims to link the two campuses of the De La Salle College by increasing the visual massing of this campus, while providing the high quality public face. The building is an efficient box forming one edge of a primary recreation and play space. Materials were selected for durability, quality and consistency with the other campus buildings and broader suburban character. The lecture theatre has over 200 retractable seats and operable windows and the cafeteria contains large bi-fold doors allowing the space to be used as an extension to the outdoor recreation area. Stunning use of copper cladding on the facade created real WOW factor for this year’s 4 to 12 school at this independent Catholic College in inner Melbourne suburb of Malvern. * Undertaken as Latitude Architects
